The NetApp FAS8300 is a unified storage system: one ONTAP platform serving both SAN and NAS. Both controllers of the HA pair share a 4U chassis, and the system scales to 15PB of raw capacity through attached shelves.
Expansion is a strong point, with 14 PCIe slots for extra host ports, cluster links and storage connections. Onboard you already get 4 x 100GbE, 12 x 25GbE and 8 x 12Gb SAS ports per HA pair. Memory is 256GB per HA pair. The minimum ONTAP release is 9.7RC1, and the chassis weighs 49.2 kg.
The FAS8300 fits organizations that want hybrid or disk-based ONTAP storage with room to grow: file services, virtualization, backup and mixed workloads on one cluster.
