IT Asset Disposition (ITAD)

IT asset disposition (ITAD) is how you retire data center hardware safely: we collect it, sanitize or destroy the data, resell what still has value and recycle the rest. It is for IT teams, data centers and resellers decommissioning servers, storage, memory and networking gear.

How it works

  1. Send us your asset list. A spreadsheet with brand, model or part number, quantity and location is enough. Serial numbers help if you need item-level reporting.
  2. We review it and propose a plan. You get a written proposal covering collection, data handling, expected value recovery and any costs. Most projects are settled as a net amount: the resale value of your equipment, less collection and processing costs. The proposal is valid for 14 days.
  3. Collection or drop-off. We arrange packing and transport from your site. We arrange collection for larger lots in Canada and the US through logistics partners. Smaller lots, and lots from other countries, are shipped to us.
  4. Audit and data sanitization. Every asset is checked in against your list. Drives and other data-bearing devices are sanitized or physically destroyed. Data is erased to NIST SP 800-88. Physical destruction is available on request.
  5. Resale and recycling. Working parts with market value are tested, graded and resold. Items with no resale value are recycled through an electronics recycler.
  6. Reporting and settlement. You receive an asset report and, where applicable, payment for recovered value. The report arrives within 15 business days after inspection. Payment is by wire transfer, or as credit against a purchase, within 10 business days after inspection.

What we accept

  • Rack and tower servers, complete or stripped
  • Hard drives and SSDs (SAS, SATA, NVMe), loose or in carriers
  • Server memory (DDR3, DDR4, DDR5)
  • Network switches, routers, transceivers and network adapters
  • Storage arrays, disk shelves and controllers
  • Processors, power supplies, RAID controllers and other server components

We review each list before collection and tell you if any items fall outside what we accept.

What you get

  • A documented chain of custody from collection to final disposition: what was collected, when, and what happened to each item.
  • Data sanitization records per drive, listed by serial number, with a certificate of sanitization for each serial.
  • Value recovery on hardware that still has a resale market. Recent server generations, enterprise SSDs and high-capacity memory usually hold the most value.
  • Recycling records for items that cannot be resold.
  • One point of contact for the project, from proposal to final report.

Why data handling comes first

A retired server can still hold customer data, credentials and configuration files. Drives are the obvious risk, but RAID controllers with cache, boot devices, SD cards and switch configurations can hold data too. A good ITAD process lists every data-bearing device and records what was done to each one.

If your policy requires drives to stay on site, tell us before collection. You can remove and keep the drives, and we collect the rest of the equipment.

FAQ

Do you pay for retired hardware?

When the resale value of your equipment covers the cost of collection and processing, the balance is paid to you or credited against a purchase. We pay by wire transfer within 10 business days after inspection.

Can I get a certificate for each drive?

Yes. You get a certificate of sanitization for each drive, listed by serial number, referencing NIST SP 800-88. Drives that are physically destroyed are recorded the same way.

Do you collect outside Canada and the US?

We arrange collection for larger lots in Canada and the US. From other countries, you ship the equipment to us in Canada. We send you the customs paperwork details first.

What happens to drives that fail sanitization?

A drive that cannot be verified as sanitized should be physically destroyed, not resold. That is our process. Each destroyed drive is recorded by serial number in your report.
