Overview
On the MX2010 and MX2020, the control board and Routing Engine are combined in one module. The Juniper REMX2K-X8-64G is that Control Board-Routing Engine (CB-RE), with an 8-core Intel Haswell processor at 2.0 GHz, 64 GB of memory and 2 x 100 GB SSDs.
The front panel carries console and AUX ports, 1 x 10/100/1000 management port, 2 x SFP+ diagnostic ports, USB and 2 external clock inputs. Junos OS 15.1F5-S1 or 16.1R2 and later is required, and the CLI shows the module as RE-S-2X00x8.
Operators often install two of these in one chassis for control-plane redundancy, or keep a spare on site.
