Overview
In a Juniper PTX5000 core router, the FPC is the card that holds the PICs and forwards their traffic. The FPC2-PTX-P1A is the second-generation version, rated at 960 Gbps, with 2 PIC slots.
It takes a range of PICs, including the P1-PTX-24-10GE-SFPP, P1-PTX-2-100GE-CFP, P2-100GE-CFP2, P2-10G-40G-QSFPP and P2-100GE-OTN, among others. That lets operators mix 10GbE, 40GbE and 100GbE interfaces on the same card.
The minimum software is Junos OS 14.1, so confirm the router's release before installing. Carriers and large network operators use this card to add capacity to a PTX5000, replace a failed FPC or hold a spare for a production core.
