Tri-mode is the reason to choose this cage. HPE P48813-B21 adds an 8SFF drive cage to the ProLiant DL380 Gen11, and each of its 8 x 2.5in bays accepts SAS, SATA or NVMe U.3 drives on an x1 link.
That flexibility lets one cage hold a mix of drive types, or move from SAS to NVMe later without changing the cage. It suits DL380 Gen11 builds where the storage plan may change over the life of the server.
The cage uses the 2U 8SFF 24G x1 UBM6 backplane. That backplane is also sold as spare P62070-001, which is useful if only the backplane needs replacing.
Who it is for: admins adding front drive bays to a DL380 Gen11, or rebuilding a server with a tri-mode storage layout.
