Overview

Older Storwize arrays are still in service at many sites, and their batteries wear out on a schedule. IBM 00Y4643 is the node canister battery for the Storwize V3500 and V3700.

Inside each node canister, this battery provides short-term power when the supply is lost, giving the canister time to save cached data. A failed or expired battery can cause the system to disable write cache, which slows the array until the battery is replaced.

The V3500 and V3700 use node canisters in pairs, so a full replacement usually means one battery for each canister. If you are only replacing the unit the system has flagged, one is enough.
