Overview

Lenovo 01GV283 is a drive backplane that connects 8 hot-swap 2.5in SFF drives to the server. It supports SAS and SATA drives.

This backplane is used across several ThinkSystem 2U and tower models: the SR550, SR590, SR650, SR655, ST550, SR850, SR850P and SR860. One part covering this many systems makes it a practical spare for sites running a mix of these servers.

You may need one for two reasons. The first is to replace a backplane that has failed, which often shows up as drives dropping offline in one bay group. The second is to add another bank of 8 drive bays where the chassis has space for it. Adding bays usually also means cabling the new backplane to a RAID controller or HBA with free ports.
