BOSS stands for Boot Optimized Storage Solution. The Dell BOSS-S1, part 7HYY4, moves the operating system or hypervisor off the front drive bays and onto two M.2 SATA drives on a PCIe card.

With 2 x M.2 slots, the card can hold a mirrored pair, so the boot volume survives a single drive failure. Every front bay stays free for data drives, which matters on storage-dense servers and hyperconverged nodes.

The card is full height, so it needs a full-height PCIe slot. The M.2 SATA drives are separate from the adapter; let us know if you need them too.
