Overview
Parallel multimode links at 40GbE are the purpose of the Arista 40GBASE-XSR4 QSFP+ Transceiver, part number QSFP-40G-XSR4. It uses an MPO-12 connector and reaches 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4.
Those distances are longer than many short-reach 40GbE modules, which gives more freedom in large data halls. The tradeoff is the cabling: MPO-12 means parallel fiber, so your trunks and patch cords must be multimode MPO. Duplex LC patching will not connect to this module.
The form factor is QSFP+ with one port. It fits QSFP+ cages, and the host switch or adapter must support the module. Arista publishes supported-optics information for its platforms.
Because the OM3 and OM4 figures differ, check which fiber grade is installed on each run. A link that is fine on OM4 may exceed the OM3 limit.
Both ends of the link should use the same module type or one that the platform documentation lists as compatible. Using mismatched optics is a frequent cause of links that fail to come up.
