Overview
Parallel single-mode with a 500 m rating is the design of the Arista 100GBASE-PSM4 QSFP Transceiver, part number QSFP-100G-PSM4. It uses an MPO-12 connector, runs at 100GbE and has a QSFP28 form factor.
The reach covers links across a large data center or between nearby buildings, further than any multimode short-reach module. The cabling requirement is specific: single-mode MPO-12 trunks and patch cords. Multimode MPO cable will not work with a single-mode module, and duplex LC cabling does not fit the connector at all.
If your plant is built around duplex single-mode, a duplex module with a 500 m rating from the same family may suit you better. PSM4 makes sense when the parallel cabling is already in place or when you plan to use breakout configurations that your platform supports.
