Overview

Large cache and a fast host link define the Lenovo ThinkSystem RAID 940-16i, part number 4Y37A09730. It carries 8GB of cache, protected by CacheVault flash with a supercapacitor, on a Broadcom SAS3916 controller with a PCIe 4.0 x8 interface. Broadcom sells the same design as the MegaRAID 9560-16i 8GB.

Up to 16 drives connect through 2 x SFF-8654 x8 internal connectors. The card is tri-mode, so SAS, SATA and NVMe (U.3) drives can all sit behind it, with SAS at 12Gb. RAID 0, 1, 10, 5, 50, 6 and 60 are supported, along with JBOD. The bigger cache helps most when many drives share the card. The feature code is B8NZ.

This low-profile adapter fits the ThinkSystem SR635 V3, SR655 V3, SR645 V3, SR665 V3, ST650 V3, SR630 V3, SR650 V3, SR630 V4, SR650 V4, SR650a V4, SR850 V3, SR950 V3, SR850 V4 and SR860 V4.

New and Refurbished units are both offered with 1 year or 3 years of warranty. Used units carry 90 days.
