With 4 RJ45 ports at 1GbE on a Broadcom 5720, Dell 540-BCOS is a quad gigabit card in the OCP 3.0 format. OCP slots are the dedicated network-card connectors found on newer servers, so the card does not use up a regular PCIe slot.

Dell's compatibility list starts with PowerEdge C6520, C6525 and C6620 and runs on through many more models, including the R450, R550 and R650 families.

Four copper ports are useful when a server needs separate links for management, backup, storage and production traffic. Another number for this card is 0VR17.
