Overview
Most WD Re drives use SATA, but the WD3001FYYG is the SAS version. It suits servers and drive enclosures with SAS controllers, and holds 3TB in a 3.5in LFF format.
The SAS link runs at 6Gb/s and the spindle at 7,200 RPM. Cache is 32MB and maximum transfer rate is 175MB/s. Western Digital lists an MTBF of 1,400,000 hours and a 0.63% annualized failure rate. Power draw is 11.5W for random read/write and 9.2W idle, and the drive weighs 0.75kg.
SAS drives need a SAS controller or HBA; they will not run on a plain SATA port. Check your backplane before ordering.
