Overview

Add SED to the 22TB X22 SATA drive and you have the Seagate Exos X22 22TB 7.2K SATA 6G LFF SED Hard Drive (ST22000NM002E). The specification is otherwise the same as its non-encrypting counterpart: 7200 rpm, SATA at 6 Gbps, 3.5in LFF, a 512 MB cache and 512e sectors.

SED means the drive has hardware encryption support. How it is used depends on your controller and key handling, so treat the drive as providing the option rather than the finished security setup.

Choosing this over the plain 22TB SATA drive is a policy decision more than a performance one. If auditors want data-at-rest protection that does not load the host CPU, the SED model is the one to specify.

As always when replacing a drive in a running array, using the same MPN avoids surprises in features and sector format.

No alternative part numbers are listed.

New, refurbished and used units are offered. New and refurbished units have a warranty of 1 year or 3 years, and used units have 90 days.
