The Ex in ConnectX-5 Ex marks the PCIe Gen4 generation of ConnectX-5, and the NVIDIA MCX516A-CDAT uses it: two QSFP28 ports at 100GbE connected through PCIe 4.0 x16. A Gen4 slot gives the two ports more host bandwidth than a Gen3 slot of the same width.
