Thirty-two gigabytes at 5600 MT/s: the HPE P64706-B21 is a dual-rank DDR5 module built from x8 chips, with a CAS latency of 46 and ECC. It belongs to the SmartMemory range.

It is a mainstream capacity for virtualization and application servers, offering a balance of size and cost per gigabyte. The faster data rate can help bandwidth-hungry software, but only on servers whose processors can run memory at 5600; otherwise the module runs at the supported speed.

The 2Rx8 layout counts as two ranks against a server's per-channel limit, so plan populations by ranks as well as capacity. Servers sometimes lower the memory speed when channels carry two modules each.

Typical buyers extend memory in newer ProLiant servers or replace a failed module of the same type.
