Overview

A 240GB boot SSD is enough for most operating system and hypervisor installs, and the Dell DMC15 is that size in M.2 form for Dell BOSS controllers. It connects over SATA at 6Gb/s.

The BOSS card holds the boot drives inside the server, so the front bays stay free for data. Many builds use two drives in a mirror so the server keeps booting if one fails. With DMC15, you can build or repair that boot mirror with the same part.

If your hypervisor or OS needs only a small boot volume, 240GB keeps cost down. Larger logs or local images may call for a bigger drive.
