Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ S-Class Transceiver Module, 850 nm Multimode

S-Class is the label on the Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ S-Class Transceiver Module, part number SFP-10G-SR-S, and it has no FCoE support. That makes it a lower-cost variant of the standard short-reach module. The optical characteristics are the same class: 850 nm over multimode fiber, a duplex LC connector, and a reach of 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4.

The FCoE note matters if your network carries Fibre Channel over Ethernet. If it does, this variant is not the right choice. For plain Ethernet links in a data center, it does the same job as the standard module.

The form factor is SFP+. Cisco hosts check the optics they accept, and some platforms may handle the S-Class version differently, so verify that your switch model accepts the -S part number.

Both ends of the link need short-reach modules, and the fiber must be multimode with a grade that meets your distance.
