Overview
The workhorse of 10GbE data center links is the Cisco 10GBASE-SR SFP+ Transceiver Module, part number SFP-10G-SR. It transmits at 850 nm over multimode fiber and uses a duplex LC connector. Rated reach is 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4.
Those distances cover most server-to-switch and switch-to-switch links inside a data center. Because duplex LC multimode is the most common cabling in place, the module normally slots into an existing plant. Confirm the fiber grade, since OM3 and OM4 give different maximums.
The form factor is SFP+, the cage style used by 10GbE ports on switches, server adapters and storage equipment. The module will not seat in a QSFP port, and each end of the link needs a short-reach module.
