The S-Class variant of the long-reach 10GbE module is the Cisco 10GBASE-LR SFP+ S-Class Transceiver Module, part number SFP-10G-LR-S. The reach note states S-Class, no FCoE support, which is the main difference from the standard module. It operates at 1310 nm over single-mode fiber with a duplex LC connector and covers 10 km.

For most Ethernet-only links, this is a straightforward way to connect buildings or sites on single-mode fiber at 10GbE. If your network carries Fibre Channel over Ethernet, the missing support is a reason to buy a different module.

The module is an SFP+. Cisco hosts check the optics they accept, and some may behave differently with S-Class modules, so confirm your switch accepts the -S part number before ordering.
