Dual-rate operation at 10/25GbE gives the Cisco 10/25GBASE-LR SFP28 Transceiver Module, Industrial Temperature, part number SFP-10/25G-LR-I, flexibility during upgrades. It uses a duplex LC connector over single-mode fiber at 1310 nm, with a rated reach of 10000 m.
The dual rating means a link can start at 10GbE and move to 25GbE later without replacing the module, as long as both ends and the host ports support the change. That suits networks in the middle of a migration.
