Overview
The Cisco 40GBASE-SR4 QSFP+ Transceiver Module, part number QSFP-40G-SR4, uses four parallel lanes over multimode fiber with an MPO-12 connector at 850 nm. Reach is 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4 or OM5, and 30 m on OM2.
The module also supports 4x10G breakout. In that mode, one 40GbE port can be split into four 10GbE links using a breakout cable, which lets a switch serve several 10GbE devices from a single 40GbE port. Breakout needs support on the host and the right cable, so confirm both.
MPO-12 cabling is required for any use of the module. Duplex LC patch cords do not fit, and the polarity of the parallel cabling must suit the link.
The form factor is QSFP+, the 40GbE cage type. The module fits QSFP+ ports and not SFP+ ports. Cisco hosts check the optics they accept, so verify that your switch supports this part number.
