Overview
Forty gigabit over a duplex multimode pair is the point of the Cisco 40GBASE-SR-BiDi QSFP+ Transceiver Module, part number QSFP-40G-SR-BD. It uses a duplex LC connector, and the BiDi design sends two wavelengths in opposite directions on each fiber, in the 832 to 918 nm range listed.
The benefit is cabling reuse. A site with duplex LC multimode fiber from 10GbE links can often carry 40GbE over the same pair, instead of installing parallel MPO trunks. Reach is 100 m on OM3 and 150 m on OM4 or OM5, so measure your runs against the fiber grade you have.
BiDi modules normally link with another BiDi module of the same type at the far end. Plan both ends together, and do not mix it with a standard short-reach 40GbE module.
