Extended reach is the point of the Cisco QSFP-40G-CSR4. This 40GBASE-CSR4 QSFP+ module runs at 850 nm over multimode fiber with an MPO-12 connector, with a reach of 82 m on OM2, 300 m on OM3 and 400 m on OM4/OM5.

That range is useful when links stretch beyond the standard short-reach distance but still stay inside one building. The connector is parallel MPO-12, so the patching has to match.
