Cisco 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 Transceiver Module, 850 nm Multimode MPO-12

Parallel multimode at 100GbE is the design of the Cisco 100GBASE-SR4 QSFP28 Transceiver Module, part number QSFP-100G-SR4-S. It uses an MPO-12 connector at 850 nm and reaches 70 m on OM3 and 100 m on OM4 or OM5.

The distances fit links inside a data center hall, from top-of-rack switches to the aggregation layer. Because the module uses four parallel lanes, the cabling has to be multimode MPO with correct polarity. Duplex LC patch cords will not connect to this module.

The form factor is QSFP28, with one port at 100GbE. That cage can also be used with breakout cabling on platforms that support it, though breakout is not described for this part, so check before planning for it.

Measure each run, and confirm the fiber grade. OM3 and OM4 give different maximums, and a single older segment limits the whole path.

Cisco hosts check the optics they accept, so confirm that your switch supports this -S part number, and use a compatible module at the far end.
