For 100GbE links that need more than the usual 10 km, the Cisco QSFP-100G-ERL-S stretches to 25 km. It is a 100GBASE-ER-Lite module in the QSFP28 format, with an LC connector and single-mode fiber.

Long-reach optics like this are typically used between sites, for example linking two data centers across a metro area. As with any long single-mode link, the real result depends on the fiber plant, so check your attenuation budget before ordering.

The QSFP-100G-ERL-S is available in three conditions. New and refurbished units carry 1 year or 3 years of warranty, and used units carry 90 days. A used module can be a practical way to get the reach at lower cost when the warranty period is less important than the budget.
